Mrs. Shirley A. Mentrek, 77, of 880 Woodland Rd. Sharpsville, PA passed away at 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 peacefully at Sharon Regional Health System, Sharon, PA.

Mrs. Mentrek was born in Farrell, PA on June 22, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Bross) Volansky.

She was a lifetime member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, PA.

She was employed as an Executive Assistant at Westinghouse for 8 years.

She was involved with Church Choir, Catering, Bingo, taught CCD classes, Cantor, Ladies Social Club, member of various card clubs. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, sewing, and crafts. She also was an avid Cleveland Sports Fan.

Mrs. Mentrek was a graduate of Farrell High School Class of 1952 and Graduate of the Sharon School of Business.

She was the wife of Robert A. Mentrek, whom she married May 10th, 1958, who survives at home.

Besides her husband, Surviving is a daughter, Marianne C. and her husband Richard L. Knight of Massallon, OH., two Sons,  Joseph M and his wife Colette Mentrek of Rocky River, OH., Robert J. Kathleen "Kitty" Mentrek of Sharon, PA, also a Sister, Helen Kessell of Sharon, PA.

She is also survived by 4 Grandchildren; Emily Mentrek, Jeanne Mentrek, J. Michael Mentrek, and Maureen Mentrek.

She was Proceeded in death by her parents, Sister Madeline Madura, and brother Joseph Volansky Jr.

Mass of Divine Liturgy at St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, at 10:00 am Panachita 9:30 am on Saturday, July 30th, 2011 with Father Cuccaro officiating.

I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Shirley's unexpected passing. She truly was one of the sweetest ladies on the planet! I will always remember her kindness and warmth. She will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences and love to Uncle Bob, Joe, Bob, Marianne and their families.

Carl and I were so saddened to read of Shirley's passing in The Herald. We just wanted to let you know we are thinking of you at this difficult time and wish we could be there in person to express our sympathy, unfortunatly the distance is just to far. Shirley was a wonderful person, I know you will all miss her terribly.

Marianne anf Family,

I am so sorry about your Mom, she was such a sweet Lady. I just talked with her last week. Losing a Mom is so hard and i know you were close with her. Marianne and Family,

We were so sorry to hear about the death of your mother. We certainly would have extended our sympathy in person, but we were out of town.
Your mom was so sweet and kind and I know she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
