Carmella Rogers was born March 13, 1921 in Sharon, the eldest daughter of Anthony and Florence (Sebastian) Rogers, and passed away March 27, 2012.

Raised in Sharon and Hermitage, Carmella graduated from Hickory High School in 1939 and worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 20 years.

While working for Westinghouse, she pursued a teaching degree at Youngstown State University and began teaching in the Hermitage school district. She later obtained her master’s degree and continued teaching until retiring in 1987.

Carmella loved teaching and following her students’ successes. After retiring from teaching, she became an adult literacy volunteer.

She was a lifelong member of Notre Dame Church, where in addition to serving on numerous committees, she taught catechism classes for more than 25 years and was a Eucharistic minister.

She enjoyed music and was a member of the church choir and the Youngstown Symphony choir. Carmella was a member of the college club, member and former president of the professional business womans association and many other community organizations throughout the years.

In addition to her love of teaching and her church, Carmella loved to travel, the arts and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

To cherish her memory, Carmella leaves behind a sister, Corky (Rogers) Ross, nephews Patrick Hickey, Bruce Hickey and Robert Yeatts, nieces Terri (Hickey) Ruff, Rebecca Miniea, Beth Yeatts and Margaret Kolar, multiple great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Carmella was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary (Rogers) Yeatts and Therese (Rogers) Hickey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice or to Notre Dame Church fund.
