My Uncle Melvin was a great man, a great teacher and was really a lot of fun. He taught me how to play gin rummy when I was thirteen, and was always a gracious host when my family visited Pennsylvania. I am certain he is in heaven, and in his heaven the Pirates and the Penguins always win! THAT is a great eternal life! My condolences to the entire Walker family.

Melvin was one of those guys that made you laugh at yourself and at himself too. I looked forward to his visits at camp when we had our get togethers in Sheffield at the Black Moose. He was one of those with a kind gentle soul and it was a sincere pleasure that I got to know Mel during those years at camp.
God has you in His hands now. Until we meet again, bless you my friend.

Joan,

I was saddened to learn of Melvin's passing. This news brought to mind some good talks we had in the locker room at Mercer High School when Mel was preparing to officiate wrestling matches. What a first-class guy he was!

I know this is a difficult time for you, Joan. But I know that with the collective strength of your wonderful family and your abiding faith you will persevere. God bless you!

Dear Joan and Family, Dan and I would like to express our sympathy to you and family. I told Dan today I still remember a soup conversation with Mel last Lenten season. We talked about barley and how I cooked it. What a great man. He will be missed by all. The funeral was a beautiful remembrance of Mel.. Our thoughts and prayers... Dan and Sue.
