A mass of Christian burial will be held for Armenio "Mino" J. Palombi, 88, of Hermitage,
formerly of 2210 Anchorage Road, Sharpsville, who passed away unexpectedly Friday the 5th
of February 2016.
Armenio was born in Sharon, Pa. on September 4th, 1927 to Nicola and Pasqualina (Molinari)
Palombi.
Mino married the former Collene "Molly" DePofi on June 7th, 1947, in St. Bartholomew Church,
Sharpsville, Pa. That same day a tornado struck the area, and Mino always said their marriage
got off to a whirlwind start. They shared more than 59 years of marriage when Molly passed
away in July, 2006.
He was a graduate of Sharpsville High School where he excelled in football. During his high
school years he worked part time at Shenango, Inc. until he was old enough to enlist in the
Marine Corps near the end of World War II. He was very proud of his service to his country.
He was a life-long member of St. Bartholomew's Church in Sharpsville.
Mino was all about hard work. He often held two jobs at once, working at many of the local mills
and railroads. He spent the majority of his early working career, first as a straightener and then
a crane man at Westinghouse, Inc. until its closing. He then embarked on a career as a semitruck driver and, incredibly, continued to drive until the age of 81.
Mino had many passions, whether it be playing his Hammond B3 organ, boating and fishing on
the Shenango reservoir, camping in New York State or Canada, or riding his Harley Davidson
motorcycle. He was also proud to have taken his family on a month-long trek across 18 states.
He was an avid hunter and once bagged a huge buck that was the talk of the local hunters.
But by far his greatest passion was for gardening. He was famous for having huge gardens with
every conceivable vegetable that could be grown and derived great pleasure in sharing his
harvests with family and friends.
His greatest love was for his family. He adored his grandchildren, attending all of their
performances and games.
In his later years, Mino enjoyed reading and watching football and baseball on TV, especially
cheering for the Pirates, the Indians, and whoever was playing against the New York Yankees!
He knew all the standings of the teams and could imitate many of the players, and often did.
He was a great storyteller, often relaying stories of his childhood during the depression in his old
High Street neighborhood.
He had a great smile and quick sense of humor. He had definite opinions and wasn't afraid to
share them.
Armenio is survived by three children, Carol and her companion Harry Necastro, Sharpsville,
Nicola "Nick" Palombi and his wife Kathy, Hermitage, and Raymond and his wife Gina, Mahwah,
NJ., two grandchildren, Erik and Carrie Hemsing, a sister, Angeline "Lou" Palombi, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters Anna Beckner and Fannie
Calderone, two brothers Marcus Palombi and Alessandro Molinari.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday February 9th, 2016 at 12:00 pm in St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church Sharpsville, PA with Father Matthew Strickenberger, officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
