Donald Homer Obituary

Donald Ray Homer, 88, of West Middlesex, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 26th, 2018.  
  
Donald was born on September 8th, 1929 to Robert and Mary (Unangst) Homer in Sharon, PA. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. During his time in the Navy he was involved in the hydrogen bomb tests in the Pacific Ocean. On August 16th, 1952 he married his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Ondic) Homer, who survives at home. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Youngstown State University.

Donald worked as a foreman and fabricator for Sharon Steel, until his retirement after 43 years. He was recognized with an award for his designs that resulted in increased productivity for the company. He was always designing and fixing things. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon, PA where he was active as elder, deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the chancel choir. He served on the West Middlesex School Board for 10 years where he also served as president. Donald enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, softball, golfing, bowling, and was known to his family as a super father and grandfather.
  
Donald is survived by his loving wife Peggy, sons, Douglas (Joan) Homer of Hubbard, OH, Gregory (Wendy) Homer of West Middlesex, PA, 3 grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Homer, Bradley (Kristin) Homer, Tony Parenti, 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Annalise Homer.
  
He was preceded in death by father, Robert Durst Homer, mother, Mary Homer, sisters, Virginia Shank, Betty Layman, and brother, Dale Homer.
  
Friends may call Sunday, April 29th, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
    
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30th, 2018 at 11:00 am in Covenant Presbyterian Church 263 E. State St. Sharon, PA with Pastor Rick Stauffer, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church.
  
Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
  
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul Homes 339 E. Jamestown Rd. Greenville, PA in memory of Donald.
