Helen Kessell Obituary
Helen Kessell, 94, of Sharon, passed away peacefully on Friday January 5th, 2018 in John XXII Nursing Home. She made her home most of her life on Service Avenue in Sharon.
Helen was born on February 25th, 1923 to Joseph and Anna (Bross) Volansky in Farrell, PA. She graduated from Farrell High School, class of 1941. She also attended the Shenango Valley Commercial School. On May 29th, 1948 she married her husband, the late Michael Kessell, who passed away October 22nd, 2001. Helen worked for Westinghouse, Inc. for 39 years, until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage, PA where she was an active member of the ladies social club and helped with catering and sang in the choir with her sisters. Helen loved traveling, reading, and knitting. She and Mike visited 49 of the 50 States in their many travels. They were particularly fond of Lake George in the New York Finger Lakes, the Pocono Mountains for the autumn leaves, and of course, Las Vegas, all of which they visited frequently, and often with friends and family as traveling companions. In her lifetime she knitted with love, beautiful and intricate sweaters, Afghans and made over 1,000 dish cloths.
She is survived by a Sister-in-Law Jean Volansky and many nieces and nephews from the Madura, Volansky, Bross, Cook and Mentrek families.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Volansky, sisters, Madeline Madura, Shirley Mentrek, and brother, Joseph Volansky Jr.
Friends may call Saturday January 13th, 2018 from 9 am to 11 am at the SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held Saturday January 13th, 2018 at 11:30 am in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church Hermitage, PA with Father Kevin Marks, officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
