Hermine "Minnie" Vasil Obituary

Hermine “Minnie” Vita Streber Vasil, 82, of Hermitage, PA, died in St. Elizabeth
Hospital, Youngstown, OH, on December 14, 2019.
She was born on June 15, 1937, in Campbell, OH, in the old Youngstown Sheet and Tube
company houses for their workers. As an infant, her family moved back to
Czechoslovakia where they remained until the invasion of Poland during WWII and
returned to the United States on the last ship leaving Europe. She was the youngest
daughter of the late Valent and Anna Ferenchak Streber and the sole surviving member of
her family.
She attended St. Elizabeth School in Youngstown and graduated from Berlin Center High
School (now Western Reserve) in Berlin Center. She also attended Youngstown State
University, and worked approximately 30 years in the banking industry. In 1999 she
retired from First National Bank in Hermitage after 23 years of service.
She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent baker of many treats, but especially known for
the countless rolls of kolachi made for Christmas, Easter, weddings, and other family
occasions. She also enjoyed polka dancing with her late husband of over 60 years.
She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, where in her
younger years, she was a member and treasurer of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
In addition to her parents, sisters (Margaret and Pauline), brothers-in-law, and a niece,
she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in July 2019, whom she married on
October 25, 1958, in St. Michael Church, formerly located on Spearman Ave., in Farrell.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara (Richard) Simon of Burghill, OH, and
Valerie (Steven) Barber of Jeannette, PA. In addition, she leaves behind three
granddaughters, Johnna (Richard) Matulja, Athens, OH; Jenna (Brian) Daugherty,
Warren, OH; Anna (Edward) Kuszajewski, South Greensburg, PA; and one grandson,
Alexander Barber; Greensburg, PA. She was also a proud great-grandmother of eight:
Jacob, Thaddeus, Theo, Frances, Libby, Penelope, Hayes, and Cordelia.
Two cousins, three nieces, four nephews, a brother-in-law, and sister-in-law also survive.
