James Ronald Miller, 83, of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, from a prolonged illness. Jim was born on November 26, 1932, to James M. and Anne (Lucas) Miller in Sharon, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Hickory High School as Salutatorian of his class in 1950, Jim served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957 on the USS Pandemus. Upon his honorable discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Norma M. Flowers on July 16, 1958, and later attended Youngstown State University where he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering finishing first in his engineering program.
Jim started as an apprentice for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and went on to work in various positions both in Sharon, Pennsylvania and Jefferson City, Missouri for 35 years before retiring in 1991 as the manager of the drafting department. He was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, MO and the Shenango Valley Masonic Lodge 810- New Castle Consistory New Castle, PA Chapter. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was an avid golfer and long-time member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in Missouri.
Survivors include his wife: Norma Miller; children: Ronald (Eileen) Miller, Neal (Martha) Miller, all of Franklin, Tennessee. Also surviving is his sister: Lois Hundley of Archdale, North Carolina; grandchildren: Becky and Jenny Miller of Franklin, Tennessee, and his brothers-in-law: Gerald (Mae) Flowers of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, and Dean Flowers of Hermitage, Pennsylvania; and ten nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016, at the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, May 4th, 2016, at the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Goswick, officiating.
Interment and full military honors will be held at Morefield Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
Memorial contributions may be sent to New Virginia United Methodist Church 1100 S. Keel Ridge Rd. Hermitage, PA in memory of James.
