Jeffrey Alan McCann, 78, Hermitage Jeffrey Alan McCann passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day with his wife of 56 years at his bedside.
Jeff was born in Sharon, PA to Joseph and Jean McCann on November 9, 1947. He attended Sharon City Schools and graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1966. He was employed as a crane operator at Westinghouse Electric in Sharon while working to earn a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in 1975. He began a career in sales which he loved at American Brands, Motorola and Cattron Communications before being recruited by Vectran Corporation in Pittsburgh which he later purchased and operated for 10 years. He was an honest businessman who cared deeply about his employees and his customers. It was not uncommon for him to drive to Baltimore, Charleston, or Erie on short notice to reassure a customer. Jeff's health led to the sale of his company and an early retirement in 2006.
Following Peggy's retirement, they began the great adventure and the second phase of their life together. Not knowing how long they would have, they packed as much as possible into the time remaining. Travel was their passion and they began. A six-week driving trip through the National Parks of the West was an adventure which they planned for years. A Cruise to Hawaii, a railroad excursion to Yellowstone and Glacier and many other adventures filled ten unexpectedly wonderful years. Jeff was a kind, decent and loving man who never deliberately hurt another human being, and everyone who knew him liked him. He loved his family and was always the first to step up if someone needed help, and he did so with no expectation of anything in return. He also loved animals, especially dogs, having two great friends - Satch whom he dragged home as a child and Patches who was the best friend he ever had.
Jeff is survived by his wife Peggy who shared a wonderful life with him and who will miss him forever, two brothers Barry (Ronelle) Hermitage and Kenneth (Betty) Sharpsville; sister in-law Nancy Joyner and brother-in-law Thomas Joyner (Dianne) of Florida; nephews Bradley McCann, Donald Joyner, Joseph Joyner and nieces Laurie Zappone, Jamie Woodworth, and Katie Maikranz and nine great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Alberta Joyner, a brother-in-law Donald Joyner and a sister-in-law Susan Forte all of whom loved him dearly.
At Jeff's request, no visitation or memorial service will take place. His ashes will be interned at Hillcrest Memorial Park in a private service.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter Building Fund where a matching grant has been established in his memory for his love of his dogs.
Arrangements entrusted to the SHERMAN Funeral Home & Crematory.
