Joan Hawk Obituary

Joan (Kunselman) Hawk, 90, of South Pymatuning, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

She had recently celebrated her birthday with family at her beloved home of 68 years.

She was born on August 10th, 1934 in Brookville, PA to Bertha and Harry Kunselman.

She attended Brookville High School. She married Ed on February 29, 1956. They moved from Brookville to South Pymatuning where they raised three children and developed lifelong friendships with fellow parishioners and neighbors.

Joan enjoyed growing and arranging flowers, designing raffle baskets with bows, making blankets for Project Linus, crafting, writing to students at WPSD and decorating her home inside and out. (Including the bathtub and at one time a toilet in the front yard!) She was into genealogy which led to many adventures at courthouses and cemeteries. She belonged to several card clubs and a bowling league.

As a member of Central Christian Church, she used her design talents to set up the crèche sets and decorate the Fellowship Hall. She worked on the Pew Bear project and served at Saturday breakfasts.

Joan loved to email her friends and family. She learned how to stream the Sharpsville Football Games so Ed could watch them when he was no longer able to attend the games and she used Zoom to watch church services when needed.

One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with Ed, their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sporting events, supporting and cheering them on and always welcoming their friends into the family.

We will never forget the years of laughter she gave us with her annual Christmas stockings stuffed with Dollar Store delights.

She will be missed by her daughter Patricia J. Greeno (John), Son Edwin A. Hawk (Ali), Daughter-in-law Sue Hawk, grandchildren Emily and James Greeno and Caleb Hawk (Frida), also nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were husband Edwin O. Hawk, Ward Hughey, son Harry R. Hawk, siblings Patricia Loesch, Lenore North, Mary McKibben and Gene Kunselman.

Memorial gifts can be made to The Western PA School for the Deaf or to The Central Christian Church Capital Campaign.
