John D. Holliday, 69, of Hermitage, passed away on Saturday October 17th, 2015 at Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, PA, following a brief illness.
John was born on June 6th, 1946 to George W. and Mollie (Martinko) Holliday in Sharon, PA. He graduated from Sharon High School class of 1964 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Youngstown State University. John worked as a management consultant from 1999 to 2008 at JD Holliday & Associates, school director at the Precision Manufacturing Institute from 2008-2011, and most recently as a Project Manager for West Central Job Partnership. On October 19th, 2001 he married his wife Rita M. Kotzak, who survives at home.
He was President and CEO of the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, managed the Shenango Valley Industrial Development Corporation from 1994 to 1999. John also served on the Strimbu Memorial Fund Board of Directors, Penn State Shenango Campus Advisory Board, Hermitage Community & Economic Development Commission Board Member, MCAR Foundation Board, Past President , Board Member, United Way of Mercer County Past Director & Executive Committee, Penn Northwest Development Corporation as Director & Past Director, Mercer County Vo-Tech School Evaluation Task Force, Past Member. He received a letter of recognition for Economic Development presented by the Governor of Pennsylvania, was recognized by the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce with the Outstanding Service Award, and as an Outstanding Presenter by Leadership Shenango.
John is survived by his loving spouse Rita, daughter - Martina Holliday and her fiancé Jerry Finnimore both of Sharon, PA; step daughter - Debora A. (Tom) Weldon Jr. of Lakewood, WA; 2 sisters - Georgianne Holliday of Hermitage, PA, Dolores Bianco of Hermitage, PA; sister in law - Bernice A. Medved of Tacoma, WA; brother in law - Leonard G. (Betty) Kotzak of Schenectady, NY; special friends - Bill (Judy) Bateman, Eleanor O'Hare; 2 Grandchildren - Tom (Jereka) Weldon, Daniel Weldon; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, George W. Holliday, mother, Mollie Holliday, and brother in law, Rosario Bianco.
Friends may call Tuesday, October 20th, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, 11:00 am at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home, Hermitage, PA, with Father Kevin Marks, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Rose Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Strimbu Memorial Fund, St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church, or Sharon Regional Hospice, in memory of John.
