John Sasala Sr. Obituary
John Sasala Sr., 97, of Greenville, formerly of Sharon and West Middlesex, passed away on Saturday May 20th, 2017 at St. Paul’s Homes in Greenville, PA following an extended illness.
John was born on June 12th, 1919 to George and Margaret (Giebel) Sasala in NuMine, PA. He graduated from Sharon High School, class of 1938. He was a veteran who served in the US Army during World War II. John worked as an Engineer for Erie Lackawannock Railroad, until his retirement. He married the late Mary Catherine (McGowan) Sasala who passed away in 1993.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Sharon, PA. John was a member of the American Legion and Slovak Home. He enjoyed golfing and worked for many years at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage, PA.
John is survived by his son, John K. (Michaleen) Sasala of Sharon, PA; 3 grandchildren, Kelly Sasala and her companion William Beale, Jonelle (Matthew) Bellin, Lisa (Shawn) Pompelia, 4 great grandchildren, Sydne Slingluff, Camryn Slingluff, Alyssa Pompelia, and Gianna Pompalia,.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret Sasala, wife, Mary Catherine Sasala, brothers, George, Mike, Steve, and Joe Sasala, sisters, Margaret Harig, Anne Sgro, Mary Bunyak, Helen Kelley, and Theresa Schotts.
Per John’s request, private services were held.
Burial will take place in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
