Joseph Svetina Obituary
Joseph “Pops” Svetina of Hermitage, passed away on Thursday August 2nd, 2018 in Sharon Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Joseph was lovingly known to his family as “Pops”. He had just celebrated his birthday on Monday and turned 89 years old.
Joe was born on July 30th, 1929 in Farrell, PA to Marko and Marija (Broncic) Svetina. He was a graduate of Farrell High School class of 1947. Joe retired from GATX in Masury, OH. He was also a veteran who served in the Korean War. Joe was an avid mall walker for 30 years.
He was married to the late Margaret D. (Takach) Svetina who passed away on November 20th, 1992. Joe was of the catholic faith and a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Sharon, PA.
Pops is survived by his five children: Karen (Russ) Buchanan of Sewickley, PA, Joseph Svetina of Chester, VA, Mary Jo (Eli) Erceg of Hermitage, PA, Michael (Anjie) Svetina of Sarasota, FL, and Beth (Mike) Gilbert of North Royalton, OH. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Melissa (Derek) Gabrielsen, Brian (Katie) Buchanan, Christina (Andrew) Ziegler, Michael (Andrea DeAngelis) Svetina, Allison Erceg, Drew Svetina, Michael Gilbert, Carley Gilbert, and Joseph Mitchell Svetina. Pops also had one great granddaughter, Ella Gabrielson and 3 more great grandchildren due in September and February.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three sisters, Kathryn Svetina, Rosemary O’Leary, and Marjorie Byrne, also two brothers, Michael Svetina and John Svetina.
Friends may call Sunday August 5th, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday August 6th, 2018 at 10 am in St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon with Father Matthew Ruyechan, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to St. Anthony's Church 804 Idaho St. Sharon, PA 16146, in memory of Joe.
Burial will take place in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery Hermitage, PA
