Joseph Ulan Obituary
Joseph Ulan passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday January 17th, 2017 with his family by his side, following an extended illness. He was 89 years old.
Joseph was born on February 4th, 1927 to John and Lillian (Melnick) Ulan in Albion, PA. On June 19th, 1948, he married his wife, the former Margaret Baker by Rev. Petrick at St. Michael’s Church in Farrell, PA. They were married 68 years.
He was a 70-year member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sharon, PA. Joseph retired from Westinghouse Inc. after 43 years. Joseph was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy aboard the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Air Craft Carrier during World War II. He enjoyed going to his camp in the mountains, hunting and fishing, riding his snowmobile in the winter, riding his three-wheeler, and his bike in the summer. He loved working in his garden, especially planting his garlic. Joseph was known as the “Garlic Man”.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Margaret Ulan at home, a son, Kenneth and his wife Carol Ulan of Farrell, PA, a daughter, Christine and her husband Ronald Hudack of Fowler, OH, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Daniel Ulan, 2 daughters, Victoria Ulan and Paula Marshall, brothers, Edward Ulan and his wife Betty, his twin James Ulan, Thomas Ulan, sister, Marie Russo and her husband Andy.
Friends may call Thursday January 19th, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stephen J. SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday January 20th, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. John’s Episcopal Church 226 W. State St. Sharon, PA with Father Adam Trambley, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church.
Burial will take place in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sharon Regional Hospice 740 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146, in memory of Joseph.
