Karen A Bodo, 75 years old, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, whom she loved dearly, on Tuesday January 20th, 2026, while in UPMC Jameson, under hospice care and with family at her side following a valiant lifelong struggle with MS and Cancer, most always with a priceless smile. Karen was born March 25th, 1950 to Virginia Rosa (Ruffalo) and Jerome (Jerry) Hogenmiller in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a graduate of Canevin High School and worked at Joseph Hornes in Pittsburgh, until shortly after she met her husband Ernie, who dragged her (willingly) out of the city into rural America. Karen adjusted well and for a short time worked as a new account receptionist at McDowell Bank in downtown Sharon until she was diagnosed with MS, after which she enjoyed becoming a fulltime skilled homemaker.
She loved her family and enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays; cheering on her wonderful son Mark at baseball and football games and wrestling matches, first at Reynolds, then at Pitt. She enjoyed watching Memorial Day parades with her family and especially with her precious grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and Nana. Karen will be sadly missed by her surviving husband Ernie, of 53 years, whom she married December 22nd, 1972; son Mark (Christina); brother Jerry (Paula); niece Morgan; nephew Levente; grandchildren Mason, Eliana, and Macklin; and numerous cousins in the Pittsburgh area. Karen was a longtime member of Lakeside E C Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Keystone Chapter, or to the National Cancer Society, or to the Shenango Township (Mercer County) Emergency Services, who are very skilled and compassionate professionals.
