Louis Ference Obituary
Louis Robert Ference, 82, of Sharon, passed away peacefully on Monday April 4th, 2016 following a brief illness, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on May 6th, 1933 to John and Alice (Kaelin) Ference in Sharon, PA. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School, graduated from Sharon High School class of 1952 and from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He was a veteran who served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War 1952-1956.
Louis worked for Westinghouse from 1956 to 1958, the Mercer County Housing Authority from 1958 to 1963, Sharon steel Corporation from 1963 to 1970, and as the Sr. Cost Accountant for Wheatland Tube from 1970 until his retirement in July of 2000. On May 14th, 1955 he married his wife Mary Lou Gavalier who survives at home.
He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage, PA. Louis was a member of the Sharon steel Golf League, St. Michael’s Golf League, and the Wheatland Tube Golf League. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends at their camp in Tionesta, PA. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs Ty and Mia. Louis was especially fond of the time he shared with his grandchildren.
Louis is survived by his loving wife Mary Lou Ference, daughter, Ms. Cynthia Mastrianno of Sharon, PA, daughter Mrs. Elizabeth A. (Steven) Wareham, sister, Mary Rose (John) Taylor of Hermitage, PA; brothers, John M. “Jake” Ference of Liberty, OH, Walter J. Ference of Sharon, PA, Charles F. Ference of Sharon, PA, Francis R. Ference of Hermitage, PA, Joseph A Ference of Sharon, PA, and Philip P. (Cathy) Ference of Arkansas. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren whom he called his “5 gold nuggets” Gina & Eric Mastrianno; Steven, Louis, and Thomas Wareham.
He was preceded in death by father, John M. Ference, mother, Alice Kaelin Ference, 3 sister in laws, Pat Ference, Dorothy Ference, Anita Ference, and nephew Mark Vincent Taylor.
Parastas prayer services will take place Thursday April 7th, 2016 at 4:30 pm in the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home.
Friends may call Thursday April 7th, 2016 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Panachida prayer service will be offered Friday April 8th, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home.
Paschal Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday April 8th, 2016 at 10:30 am St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church Hermitage, PA with Father Kevin Marks, officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
