Merle Mason Obituary
Merle L. Mason, 79, of Transfer, passed away 8:15 pm on Friday November 20th, 2015 at his home in Transfer, PA following a courageous battle with cancer.
Merle was born on January 31st, 1936 to Laverne “Mike” and Helen Jane (Sutherland) Mason in Grove City, PA. He worked for Greenville Tube from 1955 to 1975. He graduated from the Meadville State Police Academy in 1977. Merle then served as a Policeman for Pymatuning Police Department for 24 years. On July 18th, 2007 he married his wife Sherry R. Davis who survives at home.
He attended Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church. He was a member of the FOP Lakeland Lodge 88 since 1975, and served as treasurer from 1980 to 2003. He served as Transfer Fire Policeman since 1968. He was the Mercer Fire Police President in 1978. Merle is a life member of the Transfer Volunteer Fire Department, Elks Lodge in Greenville and has worked security for local school and community events since 1975. He has been a very active member of the Reynolds VFW, Greenville Moose, and Greenville Eagles since 1962. Since 1967 he has been a life member of the NRA. Merle also was a life member of the Transfer Sportsman’s Club for over 50 years. From 2005 to 2011 merle served as Pymatuning Township Supervisor.
Merle is survived by his wife Sherry R. Mason, 3 daughters - Shelly Keller of Eagle, CO, Jamie (Edward) Greggs of Greenville, PA, Kimberly Donnelly of Sharpsville, PA; son - Michael (Melanie) Mason of Transfer, PA; former wife - Betty J. (Sorg) Boliver of Arizona; 2 sisters - Linda (Bill) Clark of Rutherfordton, NC and Susan (Ron) Glessner of Grove City, PA; 11 Grandchildren - Greg Boyd, Ashley Riggan, John Lawrence and his fiancé Jenna Dorfi, Stan Lawrence, Audrey (Zack) Menold, Alexis Collins and her fiancé James Knight, Michael (Brittany) Anderson, Mitchell Mason, Shawn Greggs, Marlaine Greggs; also surviving are 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Laverne “Mike” Mason, mother, Helen Jane Mason, and sister, Sallie Mason.
Friends may call Monday, November 23rd, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24th, 2015, 11:00 am at the Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Hermitage, PA, with Pastor Todd Jaussen, officiating.
