Richard W. “Dick” Costell of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 9th, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on November 12th, 1925 to Harry L. and Zylpha M. (Cole) Costell in Sharon, PA. He was a graduate of Sharon High School. Dick served in the Navy during World War II and was part of the Omaha Beach landing during the Allied Invasion of Normandy. After the war he worked 35 years at Sharon Steel, from which he retired. On December 29th, 1948 he married his wife, Jacqueline (Kantner) Costell who passed away January 22nd, 2003.
Dick was of Protestant faith and a member of the Sharon American Legion, Farrell VFW, Kedron Masonic Lodge 389, and Valley of New Castle Consistory. He enjoyed bowling, golf, bocce, and playing racket ball. Dick was honored this past year by the Sharon American Legion 299 for 75 years of membership. He was the oldest living member.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Horvath of Sharpsville and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jacqueline Costell, and brother, Raymond Costell.
Friends may call Tuesday December 11th, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA 16148.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 12th, 2018 at 11:00 am in the SHERMAN Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Sabella, officiating. Full military honors will be offered in recognition of Dick’s service.
Burial will take place in Americas Cemetery
