Robert A. Mentrek, 84, of Sharpsville, passed away 8:25 pm on Thursday September 10th, 2015 unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Sharpsville, PA.
Robert was born on August 28th, 1931 to Michael J. and Mary A. (Rabiasz) Mentrek in Sharon, PA. He graduated from Sharon High School class of 1949. Robert worked as a Roll Turner for Sharon Steel until his retirement. On May 10th, 1958 he married the late Shirley A. Volansky, who passed away July 27th, 2011.
He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage, PA. Robert was very active in St. Michael’s church, actively working for the catering service and playing for the softball team. He was an avid sports fan who followed Cleveland sports. Most important to Robert was spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his sons - Joseph M. (Colette) Mentrek of Rocky River, OH, Robert J. (Kathleen “Kitty”) Mentrek of Sharon, PA; daughter - Marianne C. (Richard L.) Knight of Canton, OH; sister - Frances Peters of Baltimore, MD; sister in law - Helen Kessell of Sharon, PA; 4 Grandchildren - Emily A. Mentrek, Jeanne M. Mentrek, J. Michael Mentrek, and Maureen G. Mentrek.
He was preceded in death by wife, Shirley A. Mentrek, father, Michael J. Mentrek, mother, Mary A. Mentrek, brother, Thaddeus Mentrek, sister, Jane Chizmar, brother, Henry Mentrek, sister, Mildred Kantor, sister, Irene Dare, and brother Alexander Mentrek.
Friends may call Sunday, September 13th, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home, 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA. Prastas prayer service will be held at 3:30 pm before calling hours.
Mass of Divine Liturgy will be held on Monday, September 14th, 2015, 11:00 am at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, PA, with Father Kevin Marks, officiating. Panachida service will be offered at 10:30 am in the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.
