Victor DeVito, Sr.
Victor DeVito passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Vic was born on September 27th, 1927 in Campania, Italy. He was the third of four children of Rocco and Rose (DeLayo) DeVito. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and 3 siblings at the age of 9. They settled in Farrell, PA.
He was a Pennsylvania State Wrestling Champion in 1947. He graduated from Farrell High School class of 1948. Vic served in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1954 he married his wife, the late Clara Elizabeth Bosco.
Vic was employed by Westinghouse Electric Transformer Division for 38 years before retiring in 1984. He served as IUE Division Steward for 22 years. He was always an active outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and golf. For many years he volunteered as a wrestling referee in Pennsylvania and Ohio, as well as a little league umpire. He was very active in local and state Democratic Party politics, and once met President John F. Kennedy, whom he greatly admired. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
He is survived by his 3 children, Dawn (Richard) West, Victor (Sharon) DeVito Jr., and Judy Townsen, by 3 grandchildren: Kyle West, Megan DeVito, and Michael DeVito, and by 3 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Clara, sister Grace DeMatteo, and two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph, and his daughter-in-law, Sharon.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and thoughtful caregivers at Hospitality Care Center nursing home in Hermitage, where he lived for 12 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday May 6th, 2017 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church Farrell, PA with Father Matthew Ruyechan, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church.
Burial will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
