William Edward Blake, 73, of Transfer, passed away on Wednesday April 17th, 2019 at UPMC Greenville Hospital.
William was born on June 9th, 1945 to Howard Wilson and Ruth Ann (MacDonald) Blake in Warren, OH. He graduated from Reynolds High School where he wrestled and played football. He served in the U.S. Navy. William worked as a computer steel grinder for Copperweld. On June 24th, 1967 he married his wife, Shirley (Smith) Blake, who survives at home.
He was a member of Clark Trinity United Methodist Church where he and his wife were active in church events. William was a member of Sharpsville Lodge # 517 Free and Accepted Masons, and New Castle Consistory. He was also very active in the Transfer Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, where he was past Fire Chief. William served as the Pymatuning Township Supervisor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time at his camp in Benezette with family. He was also an avid Reynold athletic fan, helping with the wrestling boosters and attending numerous sporting events. William was a lifelong Republican who stayed active in the Mercer County Republican Party.
William is survived by his loving wife Shirley, daughter, Michele Leanna (Chad) Tate of Camp Hill, PA, granddaughter, Madison Tate, brother, Robert (Dorothy) Blake of Jamestown, PA, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by father, Howard Wilson Blake and mother, Ruth Ann Blake.
Friends may call Monday April 22nd, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 am in Clark Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Locke, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church.
Burial will take place in Americas Cemetery with full military honors.
