William John Murrin
With loving hearts, we announce the passing of William John Murrin, known to many as “Bill.” He passed away peacefully on March 11th, 2026, at UPMC Horizon in Farrell, surrounded by those who loved him.
Born on August 24th, 1947, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, “Bill” was the son of the late Gerard and Ann (DuPal) Murrin. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many, and he will be deeply missed.
Bill was raised in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of St. Michael's High School. After graduation, he continued his education and his football career at Slippery Rock University—an experience he carried with pride and fond memories throughout his life. From an early age, he was known for his steady kindness, quiet strength, and the way he made others feel welcome.
Family was at the center of Bill’s life. He shared a loving life with his wife, Carol Murrin (Shank), and took great pride in being a father to his son, David. He showed his love in everyday ways—showing up, lending a hand, and making time for the moments that mattered most.
Bill’s calling was education. He worked as a school teacher with the Hermitage School District, where he poured his time, patience, and encouragement into his students and made a lasting impact on countless young lives. Before his career in teaching, he also spent time working at the Post Office and on the Railroad. Beyond the classroom, he loved coaching football—sharing the lessons of teamwork, discipline, and confidence with the players who had the privilege of learning from him.
Bill will be remembered for his warm heart, steady presence, and the love he poured into his family. His kindness, humor, and quiet wisdom will live on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerard and Ann (DuPal) Murrin; his brothers, Father Donald Murrin and Nelson Murrin, sister in law, Theresa Murrin.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Carol Murrin (Shank); his son, David Murrin; his brothers, Michael (Chris) Murrin, Thomas Murrin, and Lawrence (Joy) Murrin; his sisters, Annie (Matt) Portz, Maggie (Bill) Moder, Elaine Gaus, Genie Murrin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday March 18th, 2026 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave, Sharon, PA 16146. Friends are welcome to meet directly at the church. Father James Power will officiate.
Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph Church in Sharon, Pennsylvania.
The family appreciates all prayers, support, and kindness during this time.
